LIBRARY

Realizing the importance of a strong and active library/learning resource, the college has established a well equipped library catering to the requirements of the courses being offered. The main library is housed within the college building and departmental libraries at various departments. The main library is open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM throughout the week.

The libraries is open for twelve hours in a day through out the week, which facilitates the users to use the library at their convenient and preferable time. The libraries provides a conducive atmosphere for reading. There are provisions for reference section, lending section, journal section and the digital library. There is a provision for a separate private study area earmarked for personal reading. The computer technology is an integral part of a library and its educational resources. The campuses is Wi-Fi enabled with an access to all the online databases subscribed by the libary.

The procurement of learning resources is carried out by a consultative process originating by a suggestion or a recommendation made by the user viz. students and staff. This then follows through a well-defined process of approval and procurement that ensures that the library caters to the need of the end users.

The comprehensive collection comprises of both traditional resources viz. books and journals in print and the electronic resources – the CD ROMs, videos, slides, e-books, e-journals and online databases. A modest collection of books for competitive exams is maintained. A user can relax with the library’s general collection of biographies, fiction, philosophy etc.

An online public access catalogue (OPAC) of the library’s collection is provided in the library. OPAC access points in their respective departments, is also available.

The library provides a range of services through a team of dedicated library staff. The services aim to put information within easy reach. The conventional services – reference and lending, provide the staff and students the option of either using the information resources within the library or borrowing (textbooks) them for a stipulated period of time. The digital collection comprising of e-books, online journals, databases, the institutional repository collection of the abstracts of the theses and examination question bank can be accessed through the library network.

Special assistance is given on request for literature search, scientific writing of articles and citing references. The students and staff can avail the reprographic and scanning facilities in the library.

The objective of the library is not complete until the users are aware of the resources available for their use. A day long library induction program is conducted by the Librarian for every batch of fresh students at the beginning of the academic year. The orientation provides an overview of the collection of the library, its services and the classification system practiced in the library. The users are given hands on training in the use of all the three categories of information sources – primary, secondary and tertiary sources available in the library.

The feedback of students and staff on the library services is considered essential for further development. The library solicits user feedback by personal communication with the librarian or through the suggestion box provided in the library. In addition, graduating students provide their opinions on the library facilities annually. The staff can give their suggestions either directly to the librarian or through their respective heads of the department. The library usage statistics is also an indicator of library resources. The suggestions received are analyzed and discussed in the institutional library committee meetings for appropriate action.

Well stacked libraries with access to wide range of information resources has resulted in scholarly activities benefitting the students and the society at large through dissemination and application of information in the form of scientific & scholarly communications.
